Computing

Rationale / Vision

Founded in hope St. Mary’s CE (VA) Primary School is a place where all can find their voice, grow in wisdom and live well in community and service.

Finding Our Voice:
Oracy sits at the heart of our computing curriculum. Through purposeful discussion, collaboration, and exploration, children are encouraged to articulate their thinking and make sense of the digital world around them. At St Mary’s, we believe that authentic, hands-on experiences empower pupils to engage in meaningful conversations about how technology shapes their lives.

Living in Community and Service:
Technology enables our pupils to connect with and better understand their local community. Whether exploring historical archives, mapping the features of our local area, or using digital tools to share information, children learn how computing can support, celebrate, and enrich the community they belong to.

Growing in Wisdom:
Our computing curriculum supports children in developing wisdom across three key conceptual pillars:

  • Online Safety and Digital Literacy – understanding how to participate safely, responsibly, and thoughtfully in the digital world.
  • Information Technology – developing competence in using a wide range of digital tools to create, organise, and communicate information.
  • Computer Science – building curiosity and problem-solving skills through coding, logical thinking, and understanding how digital systems work.
