Opal is coming to St Mary's

Welcome to our OPAL Journey!
At St Mary’s CE(A) Primary School, we believe that play is a fundamental part of every child’s health, well-being, and learning. We are incredibly excited to announce that we have partnered with the award-winning Outdoor Play and Learning (OPAL) Primary Programme to completely transform our playtimes. Over the next 18 months, we will be rethinking our outdoor spaces to give our children the freedom to create, collaborate, and explore using rich, open-ended resources. Our goal is simple: to ensure that every single child at St Mary’s has a creative, active, and joyful playtime every day, with no exceptions!

Exciting OPAL Update!

We are delighted to announce that the first of our OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) areas will open on Wednesday 28th September.

Children will be able to enjoy a range of new play opportunities, including:

  • Muddy Café
  • Forest School Area
  • Digging Pit
  • Climbing Dome
  • Gonge Spinners
  • LEGO Area
  • Craft Area
  • Stage Area
  • New Pop-Up Football Goals

As some of these activities involve mud and water, all children will need a pair of wellies in school so they can fully enjoy the outdoor play experiences. Please ensure wellies are clearly named and kept in school where possible.

OPAL is all about providing rich, creative and active play opportunities that help children develop confidence, resilience, teamwork and problem-solving skills.

We can’t wait to see the children enjoying these exciting new areas. Keep an eye on our school website for our first OPAL photos and updates!
